Along the banks of the Bow River, 2 hours drive west of Calgary and surrounded by majestic peaks of the Canadian Rockies is the mountain resort town of Banff. Located within Banff National Park, Canadas first National Park, Banff has a unique history, one rooted deeply in tourism and home to the famed Baronial castle in the mountains, the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Banff offers visitors everything from outdoor adventure, distinctive shopping, several world class museums and galleries, and a variety of dining experiences ranging from fine dining to casual. From Banff you can do much of your touring of the Rockies region, with areas such as Lake Louise, the Icefields Parkway, Yoho National Park and even Calgary, within an easy day tour away.
The Cave and Basin Centennial Centre is built around two hot springs. Visitors can walk through a tunnel to discover the hot spring in the cave and travel back to Edwardian times by strolling around the Basin hot springs and bathhouse. At the centre, which is the birthplace of Banff National Park, there are also year-round exhibits, films, and interpretive trails. Benches and picnic tables are located around the centre.
The Upper Hot Springs is a perfect spot for visitors to relax and enjoy themselves anytime of the year in the 38oC water of an outdoor soaking pool. It is also possible to get a massage. At an elevation of 1600 m, this is the highest and hottest of the five springs on Sulphur Mountain. It is 4.2 km by road from downtown Banff.
