Travel from the breathtaking great plains of the American Midwest to the serene waters of the Pacific Coast on this scenic rail journey from Chicago to Seattle to San Francisco, with an exciting day trip to both Sonoma and Napa Valley. Enjoy the landscape as you travel along major portions of the Lewis and Clark trail. Explore Seattle and San Francisco’s popular sights and attractions before spending some time wine tasting or enjoying some world-class cuisine amongst the gorgeous, rolling vineyards in Sonoma and Napa Valley. And, then you'll head back to the “Windy City” on board one of the most beautiful train trips in all of North America.

DAY 1            YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS IN CHICAGO
Welcome to Chicago! When you arrive, check in to your hotel and spend the rest of the day exploring the Windy City with your included hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour. Must visits include The Navy Pier (it was revamped in 2016 for its 100th birthday), Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park (including the “Bean”), 360 Chicago, the Magnificent Mile, and Lincoln Park Zoo. (Overnight in Chicago)

DAYS 2-3       OVERNIGHT ONBOARD AMTRAK
Spend your morning continuing to enjoy the city before heading to the Amtrak station in the afternoon. You'll board the Empire Builder and head west to Seattle. Travelling from Chicago, the train passes through the city of Milwaukee and follows along the Mississippi river to Minneapolis. Traverse through the heart of the Rockies and Glacier National Park and then the route splits in Spokane before reaching Seattle.

DAY 4             SEATTLE
Welcome to Seattle! The “Emerald City” is full of gorgeous sights just waiting for you to discover. Upon arrival, you will travel on your own to your hotel to drop off your luggage. Then, the rest of the day is yours to explore all Seattle has to offer. Use your included CityPASS to see some of Seattle's most popular sights. (Overnight in Seattle)

DAY 5            SEATTLE
Today, continue using your Seattle CityPASS to get to know the city's crowd-pleasing landmarks and attractions.Your three-hour guided tour will connect you to downtown attractions such as Pike Place Market, the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden & Glass, Seattle Centre, Seattle's Waterfront and more! (Overnight in Seattle)

DAY 6             OVERNIGHT ONBOARD AMTRAK
In the morning, you'll head to the Amtrak station and depart Seattle onboard the Coast Starlight as it makes it way south toward San Francisco. The scenery along the Coast Starlight route is unrivalled. (Overnight onboard Amtrak)

DAY 7             SAN FRANCISCO
You'll arrive in San Francisco in the morning. When you arrive, check in to your hotel and begin using your included CityPASS and hop-on, hop-off to explore this beautiful city. Visit all of San Francisco's great attractions, like Fisherman's Wharf, Downtown, the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, and many more. You can hop off the tour at any of the designated stops to explore them at your own pace. (Overnight in San Francisco)

DAY 8            SAN FRANCISCO
Today, you can continue using your CityPASS and hop-on, hop-off and spend time checking out what you may have missed yesterday. In the evening, enjoy your included dinner in Fisherman's Wharf. (Overnight in San Francisco) D

DAY 9             SAN FRANCISCO TO SONOMA AND NAPA VALLEY
Get a taste of Northern California's famous Wine Country on this day trip to both Sonoma and Napa Valley. From Michelin starred cuisine, rolling vineyards, storybook inns, beautiful beaches, and unforgettable Pinot Noirs, there's plenty to appreciate and indulge in. (Overnight in San Francisco)

DAY 10 - 11              OVERNIGHT ONBOARD AMTRAK
This morning, travel on your own to the Amtrak station and board the California Zephyr® back to Chicago. This route is said to be one of the most beautiful train trips in all of North America. As you climb through the snow-capped Sierra Nevada Mountains, you may find it hard to disagree. Sit back, relax, and take in the stunning scenery. On Day 11, you'll wake up on the California Zephyr and take in the gorgeous landscape of the American countryside as the train ventures east to Chicago. There are so many great sights to behold on this ride! Keep your eyes peeled for the Moffat Tunnel, Glenwood Canyons, and Midwest plains. (Overnight onboard Amtrak)

DAY 12          YOUR JOURNEY ENDS IN CHICAGO
