Trip Overview

Board Amtrak's Coast Starlight and head south to Los Angeles! Enjoy the beauty of the Pacific coast as the train makes its way towards Los Angeles. After arriving into Hollywood, you will spend a night and then enjoy a day of sightseeing as you visit popular attractions such as the Hollywood Sign, the Hollywood Bowl, and Rodeo Drive. Then board Amtrak's Southwest Chief to head south to the Grand Canyon. Upon arrival you will board the Grand Canyon Railway for a scenic journey into the Canyon. There you will do a fully guided tour of the Canyon's South Rim. After your stay in the Canyon you will take the return trip back to Los Angeles and on to San Francisco. A true majestic experience will be enjoyed on this 6-day roundtrip journey.

DAY 1 YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS IN SACRAMENTO
Board Amtrak's Coast Starlight for your journey south to Los Angeles. Enjoy as the beautiful California coast is revealed to you from the window of the train. Upon arriving into the city check-in to your hotel and relax before your day of sightseeing tomorrow. (Overnight in Los Angeles)

DAY 2 OVERNIGHT ONBOARD AMTRAK
Today you will enjoy a sightseeing tour of Hollywood. Your guided tour will bring you to such iconic sights as the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Rodeo Drive. This evening you will travel to the Amtrak station and board the train for your journey to the canyon. (Overnight onboard Amtrak)

DAY 3 WILLIAMS > GRAND CANYON
Welcome to Williams Junction! This morning your hearty breakfast at the Grand Depot Café is included before you board the Grand Canyon Railway to the Grand Canyon. Upon arriving you will enjoy a guided tour of the Canyon's South Rim. Keep your camera handy as you will take many pictures of the majestic landscape before you.

DAY 4 GRAND CANYON

Today, spend your free time basking in the great outdoors and breathing in the fresh canyon air. Enjoy a stroll around the rim, or check out the shops and restaurants in the Grand Canyon Village. (Overnight in the Grand Canyon)

DAY 5 OVERNIGHT ONBOARD AMTRAK
After a good night's sleep, board the Grand Canyon Railway back to Williams. This evening, enjoy your included dinner at the Grand Depot Café. Then travel to the station and board your train back to Los Angeles and on to Sacramento. As the train makes its way west, reflect upon you exciting trip to the Grand Canyon. El Tovar

El Tovar Hotel, the premier lodging facility at the Grand Canyon, opened its doors in 1905 and was most recently renovated in 2005. In the past, the Hotel has hosted such luminaries as Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Western author Zane Grey, and many others. Today, El Tovar retains its elegant charm. Located on the Canyon rim, it features a fine dining room (open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), lounge and curio shop with newsstand.

Maswik Lodge

Maswik Lodge is a modern facility spread over several acres of ponderosa pine forest, located just 1/4 mile from the Canyon's edge. Maswik Lodge features a cafeteria that is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Here you will also find a sports bar with a wide screen TV, a curio shop stocked with handicrafts and gifts, and a transportation/activities desk.

Thunderbird Lodge

Conveniently located between El Tovar and Bright Angel Lodge, Thunderbird is a contemporary lodge located at the South Rim.

Yavapai Lodge

Yavapai Lodge is Grand Canyon National Park Lodges' largest facility and is surrounded by pinyon and juniper woodlands, about 1/2 mile from the rim. With modern rooms and many services within a few steps, this is a convenient choice for families. Yavapai East rooms feature in-room air conditioning and Yavapai West rooms have vaulted ceilings with ceiling fans. The Lodge is located next to the Market Plaza, which includes a general store, bank, and U.S. Post Office.
