Trip Overview

If you’ve ever wanted to visit a few of North America’s Southwestern cities by train, this is your opportunity! Travel from the iconic Union Station in Los Angeles to Williams, known as the “Gateway to the Grand Canyon.” Enjoy breakfast at the Grand Depot Café then board the famous Grand Canyon Railway to the breathtaking South Rim. Your included tour will introduce you to the beautiful views that draw millions of visitors to the South Rim each year. Then, transfer to Sedona to experience its unforgettable red rock landscapes before returning to Los Angeles by train.

DAY 1            OVERNIGHT ONBOARD AMTRAK
Board Amtrak’s Southwest Chief in Los Angeles for your overnight train journey to Williams, Arizona. The great American West is sure to captivate you on this train journey! (Overnight onboard Amtrak)

DAY 2            WILLIAMS TO GRAND CANYON
When you arrive in Williams, enjoy breakfast at the Grand Depot Café before boarding the Grand Canyon Railway to the majestic South Rim. Be prepared to experience one of the world’s seven wonders during your included tour. The views are awe-inspiring. (Overnight in Grand Canyon) B

DAY 3            GRAND CANYON
Watch the sunrise or sunset, visit the Yavapai Geology Museum or Desert View Watchtower, make reservations to have dinner at a historic lodge, or simply relax. (Overnight in Grand Canyon)

DAY 4            GRAND CANYON TO SEDONA
Transfer from your hotel in Grand Canyon to Sedona, where you’ll experience unforgettable red rock landscapes during your included jeep tour. You’ll get to explore parts of the desert you wouldn’t have the opportunity to otherwise. See Red Rock Crossing (the most photographed location in Sedona) with its towering Cathedral Rock and much, much more. Enjoy the rest of your day grabbing some delicious cuisine in town or go wine tasting. (Overnight in Sedona)

DAY 5            SEDONA
Continue discovering Sedona’s incredible canyons, Dry Creek Basin, and rugged backcountry landscapes. (Overnight in Sedona)

DAY 6            OVERNIGHT ONBOARD AMTRAK
Transfer from Sedona to Flagstaff today then board the Southwest Chief once more for your train ride back to Los Angeles. The train will travel along the famous US Route 66 highway through Arizona before crossing the State Line into California. View the Colorado River and the Mojave Desert, ascend the Cajon Pass, and traverse both the San Bernardino and San Gabriel Mountains. (Overnight onboard Amtrak)

DAY 7            YOUR JOURNEY ENDS IN LOS ANGELES
You’ll arrive back at Union Station in Los Angeles today. Once you exit the train, continue with your onward travels.

El Tovar

El Tovar Hotel, the premier lodging facility at the Grand Canyon, opened its doors in 1905 and was most recently renovated in 2005. In the past, the Hotel has hosted such luminaries as Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Western author Zane Grey, and many others. Today, El Tovar retains its elegant charm. Located on the Canyon rim, it features a fine dining room (open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), lounge and curio shop with newsstand.

Kachina Lodge

Located directly on the rim of the Grand Canyon, the Kachina Lodge is a great hotel for all guests visiting the South Rim.

Maswik Lodge

Maswik Lodge is a modern facility spread over several acres of ponderosa pine forest, located just 1/4 mile from the Canyon's edge. Maswik Lodge features a cafeteria that is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Here you will also find a sports bar with a wide screen TV, a curio shop stocked with handicrafts and gifts, and a transportation/activities desk.

Arabella Sedona

Adjacent to a Cococino National Forest hiking trail, this low-key hotel, set in 3 adobe-style buildings, is a 4-minute drive to downtown Sedona.

Poco Diablo Resort
