Trip Overview

The best way to discover the captivating landscapes of the Canadian Rockies is not flipping through travel magazines or browsing through photographs online. The best way to experience the majesty of this corner of the world is to travel there and behold it firsthand. On this seven-day Essential Canadian Rockies Discovery Westbound rail journey, you’ll have the opportunity to do just that! And so much more. Once you arrive in Banff, you’ll quickly realize why travelers from around the globe put this Canadian treasure on their bucket lists, or come back year after year. A few highlights include Moraine Lake, Johnston Canyon, and unforgettable Lake Louise! On Day 3, explore world-famous Jasper National Park. The Icefields Parkway, Athabasca Glacier, and the Glacier Skywalk will surely be moments that you’ll want to have your camera ready for. The next day you’ll have plenty of time to visit Medicine Lake, Maligne Lake, and Maligne Canyon on your included sightseeing tour. Your last stop is Vancouver, with all of its crowd-pleasing landmarks and attractions, such as the Vancouver Lookout, Stanley Park, and Granville Island.

DAY 1             YOUR JOURNEY BEGINS IN CALGARY
When your plane touches down in Calgary, Alberta, you'll be directly transferred to your hotel in gorgeous downtown Banff. When you arrive, check in and get settled before starting to enjoy your mountain escape. Stroll the quaint streets of downtown, with its restaurants, shopping, and lively nightlife scene. (Overnight in Banff)

DAY 2             BANFF TO LAKE LOUISE
Today, experience the grandeur of the great outdoors in Banff National Park. While countless regions of Canada are famed for their natural beauty, Banff is utterly awe-inspiring. It's truly a Canadian treasure. During your included Mountain, Lakes and Waterfalls tour, visit famous landmarks, natural wonders, and learn all about the historic locations within the Canadian Rockies. To say that your day will be packed with memorable moments is an understatement. Witness the majesty of Moraine Lake, the waterfalls in Johnston Canyon, take in views from atop Sulphur Mountain, and gaze out over breathtaking Lake Louise. Lunch is included today. DAY 3             BANFF TO JASPER
If you had only one day to explore the Canadian Rockies—aside from seeing the lakes of Banff—touring the Icefields Parkway is how you should spend it. This winding stretch of road from Jasper to Lake Louise along the Continental Divide features more than 100 ancient glaciers, gorgeous cascading waterfalls, towering mountains, and sweeping valleys of pine forests. During your included Icefields Parkways tour, get up close to the amazing Columbia Icefield and take a once-in-a-lifetime ride onboard an Ice Explorer to the Athabasca Glacier. Then, visit the incredible Glacier Skywalk for jaw-dropping views. A hot buffet lunch at the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre is included today. (Overnight in Jasper) L

DAY 4             JASPER
Your included sightseeing tour of Jasper will allow you to discover the Canadian Rockies' largest national park and UNESCO World Heritage site. Showcasing gorgeous wide-open spaces adorned with dense forests, mountains, and lakes, Jasper's wilderness is sure to captivate any visitor. DAY 5             OVERNIGHT ONBOARD VIA RAIL®
Today, you'll board The Canadian for an overnight VIA Rail journey west to Vancouver. Enjoy the awe-inspiring views of the wilderness from the comfort of your cabin or from the scenic dome car. You'll gain an entirely new perspective of the Canadian Rockies on the train. (Overnight onboard VIA Rail).

DAY 6             VANCOUVER
When you arrive in Vancouver, travel to your hotel and check in. Then, use your included admission to the Vancouver Lookout for unbelievable 360-degree views of the beautiful North Shore Mountains and metro Vancouver.
