This scenic 6-day roundtrip expedition begins in Chicago, Illinois as you travel aboard the Southwest Chief® to Williams, Arizona, where you will get the opportunity to surround yourself with nature in an outdoor lover's paradise. Then, you'll climb aboard the Grand Canyon Railway and venture where cars can't - into one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the Grand Canyon, to explore its majestic South Rim before returning to Chicago. This journey allows you to discover the splendor of Grand Canyon National Park and all the beauty of the Canyon.

DAY 1 CHICAGO > WILLIAMS
This afternoon board Amtrak's Southwest Chief for your leisurely ride to Arizona! Settle in for the ride as you pass through America's heartland and into the great American Southwest! (Overnight onboard Amtrak)

DAY 2 WILLIAMS
This evening you will arrive in Williams! Located along historic Route 66, Williams is a picturesque little town with a lot of spirit. Tonight you will check in to your hotel and prepare for your fun trip to the Canyon tomorrow.

DAY 3 WILLIAMS > GRAND CANYON
This morning you will enjoy a hearty breakfast before boarding the Grand Canyon Railway for a scenic ride into the canyon! As the Grand Canyon Railway winds its way towards the Grand Canyon's South Rim, enjoy as views of the desert and Ponderosa forests unfold for you. Upon arrival into the Canyon, board your sightseeing tour of some of the Grand Canyon's best sights. After the tour you will have lunch at your hotel. Tonight you are free to explore the Canyon on your own. (Overnight in the Grand Canyon) B, L

DAY 4 GRAND CANYON > WILLIAMS
Today you will have a free morning to enjoy the Canyon on your own. Then this afternoon board the Grand Canyon Railway for your train back to Williams. Upon arrival you will enjoy dinner at a local popular restaurant before settling in for your night in Williams. (Overnight in Williams) D

DAY 5 WILLIAMS > CHICAGO
Today you will board Amtrak for your return trip to Chicago. As the train winds its way back east, reflect upon the wonderful experiences you had at the Grand Canyon. (Overnight in the Grand Canyon)

DAY 6 YOUR GETAWAY ENDS IN CHICAGO

El Tovar

El Tovar Hotel, the premier lodging facility at the Grand Canyon, opened its doors in 1905 and was most recently renovated in 2005. In the past, the Hotel has hosted such luminaries as Theodore Roosevelt, Albert Einstein, Western author Zane Grey, and many others. Today, El Tovar retains its elegant charm. Located on the Canyon rim, it features a fine dining room (open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), lounge and curio shop with newsstand.

Grand Canyon Railway

Grand Canyon Railway Hotel is nestled amongst the Ponderosa pine forest in Williams, Arizona - "Gateway to the Grand Canyon." Owned and operated by Grand Canyon Railway, this hotel is one of the finest in the Grand Canyon -Flagstaff - Williams area.

Maswik Lodge

Maswik Lodge is a modern facility spread over several acres of ponderosa pine forest, located just 1/4 mile from the Canyon's edge. Maswik Lodge features a cafeteria that is open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Here you will also find a sports bar with a wide screen TV, a curio shop stocked with handicrafts and gifts, and a transportation/activities desk.

Thunderbird Lodge

Conveniently located between El Tovar and Bright Angel Lodge, Thunderbird is a contemporary lodge located at the South Rim.

Yavapai Lodge

Yavapai Lodge is Grand Canyon National Park Lodges' largest facility and is surrounded by pinyon and juniper woodlands, about 1/2 mile from the rim. With modern rooms and many services within a few steps, this is a convenient choice for families. Yavapai East rooms feature in-room air conditioning and Yavapai West rooms have vaulted ceilings with ceiling fans. The Lodge is located next to the Market Plaza, which includes a general store, bank, and U.S. Post Office.
