Winter is an amazing time in Jasper National Park, a frozen paradise, offering uncrowned, affordable alpine recreation. Skiers and boarders love the driest powder in the Canadian Rockies!!
Jasper National Park is Canada's largest Park spanning over 4200 square miles. Shimmering glaciers, abundant wildlife, crystal clear lakes, thundering waterfalls, deep limestone canyons and evergreen forests surrounded by towering peaks are all part of the Jasper experience. Nestled in the heart of this beauty is the picturesque town of Jasper, offering quality accommodations, including the famed Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, shopping, dining and access to many adventures such as hiking, golfing, tennis, river rafting, canoeing, cycling, nature viewing, and scenic boat cruises.
The Jasper area is absolutely bursting with gorgeous scenery year round, and there are a multitude of outdoor activities that allow you to enjoy those vistas to the fullest. Summer is peak tourism season, when folks from around the world enjoy golf, hiking, heli-hiking, horseback riding, rafting, rock climbing, biking, canoeing, fishing, and other assorted fun activities.
In the winter, alpine and cross-country skiing are the main pastimes, of course, but don't let that stop you from trying out snowshoeing, dog sledding, snowmobiling, ice skating, or ice hockey! Every skill level can be accommodated, and there are companies offering everything from basic short guided nature walks to intense multi-day winter backcountry camping trips.
From April to October, the ski lift functions as the Jasper Tramway, ferrying people 2285 meters (7496 feet) up and down the mountainside. The view from the top is gorgeous, of course, and on clear days you can see some 80 kilometers (about 50 miles) into the distance. There's also a hiking trail that gets you right to the very summit.
Spring and summer are peak tourist seasons in Jasper, and the town hosts numerous events that are open to the public and family friendly. In addition to a big Canada Day celebration on July 1, people enjoy 10k runs, a Children's Festival, and the Jasper Lions Indoor Rodeo. In odd numbered years, Jasper hosts the Heritage Folk Festival, when music lovers from all over congregate to enjoy an array of concerts and other fun activities.
